Embedded Systems and Robotics

Applied Research in embedded technologies for building a perception, cognition, interaction and actuation layer for Physical and Human Systems. This will involve contributions to devices and systems involving sensors, algorithms, robotics and human machine interfaces in collaboration with Proof of Concepts and Programs dealing with real world problems in human life.

Targeted solution areas include:

  • Affordable Healthcare, Wellness, screening and diagnostics with mobile, wearable and nearable sensing, worker health monitoring, geriatric care and tele-rehabilitation for stroke patients 
  • Management of resources including energy and water
  • Usage of robots and drones in healthcare and industrial applications


Cyber Physical Systems

By definition, such a system integrates a computing and communication system in the cyber world with monitoring and control of entities in the physical world, safely, securely, and in real-time. Our current and near-term future focus for such systems is to research and apply its outcomes in the areas of Smart Water-Leak Detection and Management, Refrigeration Systems in Supermarkets, Smart Buildings covering operations such as HVAC Control and Optimization, Elevator Fault Diagnosis, Dynamic Microgrid Configurator, and Intelligent Transportation-Fleet Management.

Software Systems 

Software Area will focus on the design, specification, analysis and simulation of complex system of systems. These systems could be as varied as those that model enterprise, materials or cyber physical systems. Our objective is to become a top class industrial R&D group that consistently delivers top quality scholastic publications, IP assets and demonstrated business impact potential.

Our expanded research scope now includes modeling and simulation of complex system of systems, AI and knowledge engineering, NLP and ML techniques to aid in authoring models as well as knowledge representations, and data driven and knowledge assisted human-in-the-loop support for design as well as decision making.

Data and Decision Sciences

The Data and Decision Sciences research area conducts cutting-edge applied research across all elements of cognitive intelligence with the goal of either greater automation leading to increased efficiencies, or amplifying human expertise for greater effectiveness in an increasingly competitive world.
Our research activities in the broad area of cognitive intelligence can be broadly classified into:

Physical Sciences

This research area combines the areas of Material Design and Discovery and Advanced Information Systems. This Inter-Disciplinary Research group contributes to material sciences at every stage, from cradle to grave. It does this by actively experimenting, modelling on observations and then building on these models to simulate on various other possibilities. The areas which come under are:

Life Sciences

Genomics: Genome analysis, Development of pipeline for automated execution for exome and whole genome sequencing, Integration of tools to analyze variants to extract biological insights, applying signal processing methods such as compressed sensing to genomics, and Computational Biology. Genomics related work includes end-to-end analysis of multiple human genome samples to identify disease causing mutations using a variety of inheritance models, Genome annotation, Comparative genomics and Genome Assembly/Analysis.


Behavioral Business and Social Sciences

This research area is primarily centered around human-centric sciences that have an intersection between human behaviour vis-à-vis the sphere of interaction viz. work, health, business, society, entertainment etc. The research applicability could address areas of Well-being/Personalized Medicine, Learning/Social implications in a Digital Workplace, Social responsibility/Digital Citizen, Organizational behaviour/Culture Change, and Personalized Informatics
